CHEQUE TOO SHARP IN DEADLY STAKE

CHEQUE TOO SHARP IN DEADLY STAKE

Ian Fortune

Cheque For Sir and Bogger Cooper did what was needed in the semi-finals of the valuable Deadly Kennels A2 at Kilkenny on Friday night.

The former set the standard with a trap to line success, while Bogger Cooper made the most of an inside draw to take charge into the back straight.

CHEQUE BOUNCING AT PRESENT

Karol Ramsbottom will be hoping Cheque For Sir’s success is only a hint that his kennel string are really starting to hit top form as he sends out Sober Glory in tonight’s Leger decider at Limerick.

After two trap to line victories in the earlier rounds, Cheque For Sir was again sharpest in the early yards.

The Cash Back Syndicate owned son of Droopys Sydney and Yahoo Ava broke fastest to dispute the lead into the turn with his kennel companion Deadly Crusasder. The latter continued to push hard down the back straight but Cheque For Sir began to assert as they turned for home.

He eventually ran out a ready two and a half-length winner in 28.96. Avongate Playboy won the battle for third, a further two and a half lengths adrift.

COPPER GIVES RIVALS THE SLIP

Liam Peacock’s Bogger Cooper was an even winner of Heat 2, although he did have to work for the lead. The son of Pestana and Bogger Bonnie was disputing second into the corner behind The Other Breac but he shot through on the fence to lead between the opening bends.

Once doing so, he quickly opened up a decisive lead. Sassy Sonny stayed on well to grab second but Bogger Cooper was always comfortable and he eventually hit the line five and a half lengths to the good in 29.17. The Other Breac was just a neck away in third.
