SONNY SETS PACE IN DEADLY STAKE AT KILKENNY

SONNY SETS PACE IN DEADLY STAKE AT KILKENNY

Ian Fortune

Sassy Sonny again set the pace in the second round of the Deadly Kennels A2 525 at Kilkenny on Friday evening, coming home clear in the final heat in 29.21.

After setting the standard seven days earlier, Brian Kirwin’s son of Good News and Oldburrin Queen made light work of his second round task, leading early to emerge a length and a half scorer over The Other Breac. Tailteann Syd was best of the remainder, three and a half lengths further adrift.

CHEQUE INITIATES A DOUBLE FOR KAROL

Karols Ramsbottom completed a double with Cheque For Sir and Deadly Crusader.

The former justified 6-4 favouritism by making every inch to beat Bogger Cooper by three parts of a length. The son of Droopys Sydney and Yahoo Ava, who is owned by the Cash Back Syndicate, stopped the clock in 29.31. Woe Nancy was another three parts of a length back in third.

CRUSADER LEADS LATE

William Ramsbottom’s Deadly Crusader (Droopys Sydney/ Mysterious Ways) was also the 6-4 favourite for Heat 3 but he had to work a little harder than his kennel companion.

Never too far behind in second, he challenged his kennel companion Sliabh Gcuillinn on the final turn.

By steering a wide path, he made things harder for himself but he really dug in when straightening up. This allowed him to take charge in the closing yards to see off Knocknadoguebale and Castleivy Ginge by a length and three quarters of a length in 29.23.

NOMADIC BOLTS OUT

Nomadic Bolt, owned by the Five Mc Syndicate, took the remaining heat, showing real professionalism as the son of Laughil Blake and An Cailin Alainn flashed from traps to make every inch.

Avongate Playboy attempted to close on the run in but there was no stopping Nomadic Bolt, who emerged a comfortable length and a half winner in 29.28.
