Burnchurch Elle was the toast of Kilkenny on Friday night when showing a potent turn of pace from the second turn to cut through the pack for a superb success in the final of the €4,800 TIME Greyhound Nutrition & KGOBA A3 525.
Pretty Exile and Coolemount Ger were sent to traps the joint favourites at 7-4 and the pair were in the firing line from the start. Pretty Exile flew up the outside of the track after a level start to dictate the pace into the back straight.
Coolemount Ger was also prominent but had to surrender second spot into the turn with Woe Meohmy slipping through on the fence. The latter fell away down the back straight, leaving Coolemount Ger to go second, while Burnchurch Elle was now beginning to wind up her challenge.
Left fourth on the fence at the opening turn, Burnchurch Elle flew into the third turn to challenge for second on the inside of Coolemount Ger. The daughter of Grangeview Ten and Blackstone Time ran a fluent third and fourth turn to get the better of Coolemount Ger.
She got first crack at Pretty Exile and when the latter stayed to the middle of the track off the final bend, she made her move. Coolemount Ger continued to press hard but Burnchurch Elle was not going to be denied. Michael Cullen’s star ran right to the line to contain Coolemount Ger by a half length in 29.05. Pretty Exile was three parts of a length adrift in third.
BARRY TOO HOT TO HANDLE
There was also a notable run on the undercard from Sawdust Barry as he captured the final of the TIME Greyhound Nutrition A4 in a rapid 28.96.
The Murt Leahy trained son of Skywalker Barry and Sober Pearl was in charge from the drop of the hat before emerging a ten length winner over Brostaigh Cullen.
