Droopys Kathleen is back.
The brilliant bitch made a successful return to racing action at Dunstall Park, Wolverhampton on Friday night, setting the standard in the opening round of the PGR British Oaks.
In what was her first start of 2025 and her first since capturing last year’s Gourmet Island Puppy Oaks at Shelbourne Park, the sensational daughter of Droopys Sydney looked up for the challenge as she brought her career tally to six wins from six starts in the penultimate heat.
Sent to traps the 2-11 favourite, she had to deal with the worst of the weather conditions but it failed to dampen her spirits. She would start on terms before forcing her way to the front on the corner. Quickening clear, she would eventually emerge a five length scorer over her nearest market rival Raebella Bullet in 27.87. The winning time is the fastest run for the 480m trip and is seen as a track record but the venue isn’t open long and only had their first open races in the past week.
More importantly, Droopys Kathleen looked happy into the pick up and both Robert Gleeson and her owners Alan Dobbs and Dylan Browne-McMonagle will be delighted to see her back in action.
For the record, next fastest heat winner was Strike It Skye, who was the only other runner on the card to break 28 seconds with a 27.91 return.
