Sassy Suzy produced one of the performances of the weekend at Newbridge on Friday night, emerging a superb winner of the Bosco Gleeson memorial at Newbridge.
The stake which was worth an impressive €2,600 to the winner produced some wonderful racing throughout but, ultimately, Sassy Susie emerged a brilliant champion.
The betting ahead of the decider suggested it was a wide-open affair but Sassy Suzy hadn’t read the memo. Michael Brennan’s daughter of Burgess Bucks and Droopys Cutey was electric. Much like her dam who was brilliant at boxes, Sassy Susie shot from trap two and was in complete command from the outset.
Securing a two-length advantage into the turn, she comfortably cleared those on her inner to set a strong pace into the back straight. Quarry Boy and Aoife Artist took up the pursuit but neither could lay a glove on the leader.
Instead, Jet Fighter ran on well to secure second but Sassy Suzy was paw-perfect. Despite steering a wide path off the final turn, she proceeded to win by three lengths in a rapid 28.57. Jet Fighter was second with Aoife Artist another length adrift in third.
Sassy Suzy will now move up to A0 company but if continuing to start as she did on Friday night, that won’t be a problem for Michael Brennan’s razor-sharp performer.
