A mighty impressive burst of early speed allowed Glenquain Sid emerge a tremendous winner of the Peter Meaney Memorial ON2 on Friday night.

Owned jointly by Damien Cunningham and Liam Kirley, the son of Droopys Sydney and Glenlee produced a career best effort to emerge comfortable winner over the favourite Romeo Atomic.

The latter broke reasonably well but had no answer to Glenquain Sid who flew up the middle of the track to lead around the corner. Once going to the front, the March ’21 whelp was never under a moment’s pressure.

Maintaining a strong gallop throughout, Glenquain Sid emerged a comfortable winner by three and a half lengths in a rapid 28.88. Romeo Atomic was second throughout with Kilgraney Mac third, a further half length adrift.

Elsewhere on the card, the opening round of the Kilkenny Track A3 525 got underway and the Karol Ramsbottom trained Short Notice set a strong standard with a trap to line success in 29.00.

The son of Dorotas Wildcat and Riverdale Lily was always in control as he emerged a five length winner over Burgess Bolger.

John Mackey’s Foyle Bridge was never fastest, leading early to come home in front in Heat 5. A half-brother to Beach Avenue, he contained Ballybough Champ by a length in 29.16.

The David Flanagan trained Luner Lestrange and Darragh Morrissey’s Graigues Bubbly both posted 29.23 in their respective heats. The former led throughout to win by four lengths, while Graigues Bubbly was never far away before staying on for a half length verdict. Vicarshill Boy (29.40), Corra Choil Best (29.30), Burgess Cutey (29.34) and Droopys Annalise (29.29) won the remaining heats.
