DELIRIUM AS TREMENS OBLIGES AT KILKENNY

So often the bridesmaid, the wonderfully consistent Delirium Tremens claimed the big prize he so richly deserved at Kilkenny on Friday evening when running out a superb winner of the Jag Building Services & KGOBA A1 Derby.
The Murt Leahy trained fawn claimed his nineteenth and most important success in typically professional manner. Making a flying start from trap six, he got first run on a collection of early paced trackers to lad on the turn.
Both Bogger Dusty and Kilara Roberta sat just behind Delirium Tremens into the turn but found traffic as the early pace-setter shot around in front. From an ideal draw on the fence, Storys Fuse slipped around in second and emerged as the main threat to Delirium Tremens but she was facing an uphill task.
AS expected, once getting his opportunity in a big final, Delirium Tremens kept going right to the line. Owned by the Tiny Pharma Syndicate, the son of Ballymac Eske and Knockdrinna Miss took the €9,000 prize by half a length in a rapid 28.69. Storys Fuse ran a fine race in second for event sponsor Gavin O’Mahoney, while Bogger Dusty was best of the remainder in third, a further four and a half lengths adrift.
CAROL COMPLETES A DOUBLE FOR MURT
Murt Leahy later completed a final double as Ballybough Carol ran out a good winner of the Stan Bergin, Monumental Works, A2 525.
Making the most of an inside draw, Pat Carroll’s daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droopys Sweet was soon in charge and she eased on to win by an ever-widening six lengths from Goingtherightway in 29.04.
ROCK WAS READY TO ROLL
Karol Ramsbottom and Sean Malone tasted glory in the Peter Meaney Memorial as their Sober Rock rode a bump on the opening turn to come out on top at the expense of his kennel companion Deadly Quickshow.
The son of Laughil Blake and Rockmount Royce was only fourth into the back straight but he soon made hi way into second. Once doing so, he always had the long-time pace-setter Deadly Quickshow in his sights. Coming through in the final yards, Sober Rock got up to take the verdict by a neck in 29.29. Raha Secco ran on strongly to take third, a further length back.
WHAT A GOAL!
The grand final of the JAG Unraced Series saw one of the Limerick qualifiers emerge on top.
Tromora Goal was sent to traps an 8-1 chance and seemed to facing an uphill task when missing the start from an outside box. He tracked across to the rail, however, and was soon fourth.
Regent Sky set the pace into the back straight but Tromora Goal stayed tight to the fence to move second at the second turn. He was ultimately too close once doing so. David Hogan’s son of Ballymac Best and Tromora Champion charged into the third turn to move straight past the pace-setter before going on to contain the big finish of Jetstream Sunset by a length in 29.66.
