There were some really nice performances on Saturday night at Thurles Greyhound Stadium but it was Boozed Burgess that set the standard with a brilliant display for Osmond Bennett and Paraic Campion.
Incredibly, Boozed Burgess was coming into his A2/A3 contest without a win in eight starts, however, he righted that particular wrong in emphatic fashion. Installed as the 6/4 favourite, ‘Boozed’ flew from trap three to post a rapid 1.65 sectional and in doing so, rounded the opening turn with a one length lead over Epic Desire in second. Quickly drawing clear of his rival, it was evident that this was a red-hot performance from the son of Burgess Bucks and Road Queen and it was a case of all eyes on the clock as he emerged a facile, ten length winner over Whizzing Donald in second. The time, as expected, was a brilliant 28.78; a serious run from this June 22’ whelp.
Prior to that, Sundance Shirley (6/4), owned by the Feel-Good-Racing-Synd,made it three wins from her last four starts in the AO/A1 525. A really consistent lady, she got away to her customary fast start from one to immediately pace up brilliantly and lead. Thereafter, Borna Rooster set off in chase and the duo served up a thrilling battle rounding the bottom two bends. However, ‘Shirley’ was as game as a pheasant in front and the daughter of Black Parachute and Daryanoor Shine fended off Borna Rooster to win by one length, in 28.98.
Indeed, Paraic Campion sealed a fine double in the concluding race on the card as Ballycoole Boss recorded an eighth career victory over the extended 570-yard trip. Running from trap six, the 5/2 chance meant business from the outset as he broke smartly before outpacing his rivals on the long run to the opener bend. Holding a three parts of a length lead over Black Shine down the back, the son of Ballymac Eske and Busy Busy stuck to his guns well thereafter as he stayed on expertly to cross the line with two lengths in hand. The time was a brisk 31.43.
