Friday night’s Galway card featured three opening round heats of The Construction Mans A3 525 Yards Stake and it was Ballygibbon Cash that set the standard with a brilliant display in the concluding heat of the night.
Kindly sponsored by Noel Gavin and Finbar Ryan of O’Sullivan & Hansberry Main Citroen Dealers, Kilrush Road, Ennis, the final of this stake will boast an impressive €1500 and it will take place on Friday, 20th September, which is a GALA Fundraising night for West Clare Cancer care. On the night, the Clare dual All-Ireland hero Peter Duggan will in attendance with the Liam McCarthy Cup and it promises to be a fantastic night with large crowds expected.
As mentioned, the concluding heat saw the John O’Meara owned Ballygibbon Cash (2/1) record the quickest time as he forced his way through on the rails to emerge a seven length winner over Rosshill News in second. Rosshill News trapped best of all and showed fine pace to lead Ballygibbon Cash and Petes Noah, however, ‘Cash’ soon muscled his way through to take charge along the fence. Thereafter, the son of Ballymac Cashout & Sive To One set sail for home and he was too strong for his rivals in emerging a facile winner over Rosshill News in second. The time was 28.95 .10s.
In the opening heat, Cragataska Black looked home and hosed as she opened a three length advantage early on after some traffic in behind saw several runners impacted. However, Glamorous Woohoo, owned by the Horan-Family-Synd was now in recovery mode and he joined the leader exiting the penultimate turn. From here, the son of Dorotas Wildcat and Rage Emoski moved clear of ‘Black’ on the run for home and he comfortably crossed the one with two and three parts of a length to spare. The time for the 3/1 shot was 29.36 .10s.
There was an identical time posted in heat two as Balrobuck Smokie (5/2) took over at the second bend to to make it back-to-back wins and indeed bring his career tally to double figures. Owned by Joe Shaughnessy, ‘Smokie’ had plenty to do early on as both Springwell Denny and Seekers Jet set the early standard, however, he ran a terrific second bend to slip up the inside and lead. Thereafter, it proved a straightforward assignment for the son of Pat C Sabbath and Be Slow Teresa as he drew clear to score by six and a half lengths from Fantasy Tuppence in second. The time was 29.36 .10s.
