DEPLOY STRIKES WHEN IT MATTERS

Ian Fortune

Droopys Deploy may have found the trouble spots in his two outings in the prelims but he found room to race on the night that mattered at Shelbourne Park on Friday night, running out an impressive and rather easy winner of the feature, the Talking Dogs on Monday Open Unraced.

Representing the Robert Gleeson/ Paul Allen combination, the son of Malachi and Droopys Charm broke on terms and held a narrow lead into the turn before swinging wide. Despite this, he held on to his advantage and once straightening up, started to put daylight between himself and his nearest pursuer, the reserve, Coolavanny Bruno. Droopys Deploy shot clear into the third turn to put the race beyond the reach of his rivals and proceeded to cruise home six lengths clear in a quick 28.49. Phoenix Charlie recovered from opening bend crowding to come through for second with Ballymac Eli running on well to take third, some five lengths further adrift.

SUPERB POSH SHOOTS CLEAR

There were two brilliant displays in the semi-finals of the Upcoming Events A2 Bitch 525 with both Phoenix Posh and Mind Body Spirit impressing.

The former set the standard in the second semi, rocketing to the turn to open a clear advantage over her rivals.

Trained by Ian Reilly for his son Billy, the daughter of Broadstrand Bono and Swift Wriggle proceeded to emerge an easy six and a half length winner in a rapid 28.26. Location stayed on for second with Headinthewindow finishing another two and a half lengths adrift in third.

BODY IN GOOD SPIRITS

Body Mind Spirit was every bit as impressive in the opening heat.

Brendan Matthews’ bitch was only third into the turn but shot between the pace-setters, Droopys Goddess and Stands Out, into the third turn.

Once doing so, the well-bred daughter of Ballymac Bolger and Unlock Unlock shot clear to emerge a comfortable six length winner in a very quick 28.33. Droopys Goddess was second with Stands Out in third. It was a superb display by the winner.
