Swords Rex was a true superstar on the track and he is now aiming to become a star as a sire.
One of the best and most consistent greyhounds of modern times, he also happens to be bred in the purple with his dam line going back to Pat Dalton’s world-famous breeding lines.
It will be hugely interesting to see how his first litters progress. Of course, it won’t be until the end of 2025 when we see his first pups hit the track but the early signs are promising. He had his first two litters as a sire last week with both out of proven brood bitches.
His first litter was with Glenegat Mildred, the dam of the hugely talented Untold Dollar, produced five dogs and three bitches, while a couple of days later his second litter was even larger. The second litter out of Mydras Dawn, the dam of the Cesarewitch, Puppy Oaks and Champion Bitch Stake winner Singalong Dolly, produced eleven pups, nine dogs and two bitches.
With more litters set to be born in the coming weeks, it seems Swords Rex will have a chance to make his name as a sire. We look forward to seeing his progeny hitting the tracks and perhaps there’s a coupe of classic winners amongst them.
As always, the Riverside Kennels social media team, led by Rachel Holland, were on the ball delivering the news on their various channels which included a pic of proud mum Glenegat Mildred and her litter of eight. Check out the X post here: https://x.com/RiversideKenne/status/1833802034912297328
