There was a brilliant €2,500 on offer at Clonmel on Sunday evening as the final of the Eamon Gleeson Memorial A4/A5 525 took centre stage and this was landed in emphatic style by the improving Goldcash Warrior.
Kindly sponsored by Dorris Gleeson, this event has proved a fitting tribute to Eamon and the action has been hugely competitive over the past number of weeks. Indeed, the final looked wide-open on paper, however, it was Goldcash Warrior that continued his incredible career start with a fourth victory from just seven outings. Owned by Michael Doyle and Jack Meade, the March puppy had come from off-the-pace in the semi finals and he was to implement similar tactics this time around. Drawn in four, the 9/4 chance was only moderate into stride, however, he was headed early on by both Cavies Jet and Pepe Nero. Some bumping at the opening corner saw ‘Warrior’ forced to halt his improvement but this only briefly as he showed excellent determination to shoot into the back straight one and a half lengths adrift of Pepe Nero. Quickly looming alongside his rival, the strong staying son of Grangeview Ten – Wise Eruption was now in full control and he entered the penultimate bend with a clear advantage over Pepe Nero in second. A formality thereafter, Goldcash Warrior flew up the Suirside hill to cross the line two and a half lengths clear of Pepe Nero in second. The time was 28.76, which was rapid given the early traffic.
BALTIC SETS ‘TIME’ STANDARD
Elsewhere on the card, the opening round heats of the Join The ‘Time Club’ A5 525 got underway and the standard was set by Foxrock Baltic in the opening heat.
Sent to traps as the 2/1 favourite, Canice Hyland’s runner put this contest to bed early as he recovered from a moderate start to motor into the opening bend from trap one. Posting a 2.85 sectional, the son of Jaytee Taylor – Charlies Bonnie never saw another rival thereafter as he showed fine determination to see off the staying-on Blakes Choice in second. The time was 29.14.
Heat two was landed by Gerpats Jackpot (Grangeview Ten – Gerpats Neptune) at odds of 5/1. Trained by Matthew Ryan for Patricia White, he too made the most of a good start from trap two, before comfortably seeing off Dakota Port by five and a half lengths. The time was 29.17.
The remaining heat saw Great Claire (Jacob Tashadelek – Kilcash Toto) come from off-the-pace to bring up a dozen career victories. Sent to traps as the 9/4 jolly, Peter Hattemore’s charge played her part in a thrilling battle with Foxrock Alfie, before getting the better of her rival by two and a half lengths. The time was 29.70.
