While the final of the Irish Retired Greyhound Trust A5 525 may have been the headliner at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night, the performance of the night came in the concluding race as Tiermana Dream produced the fastest two-bend time on the clock in over three years.
Trained by Colm Fitzgerald for the Zero-Zero-Syndicate, Tiermana Dream has just five career starts under his belt but he is now a three-time winner after last night’s hugely impressive display. Sent to traps as a 2/1 chance, the October son of Ballyhimikin Jet - Tiermana Jetty disputed briefly with Burkos Tarzan, however, immediately exploded in the opening yards to shoot into a three length advantage. Thereafter, the white-jacketed runner breezed clear of his rivals and although drifting wide off the final bend, still managed to cross the line five lengths clear of Nashville in second. The time was an electric 18.87.
SYD LANDS I.R.G.T FINAL
There was €700 on offer in the final of I.R.G.T A5 525 and this was landed by Portumna Syd as he held on gamely for Mary Muldoon and John Sloyan.
Without a win since June, Portumna Syd (4/1) didn’t break too fluently from trap four, however, showcased his impressive early speed to storm between runners and lead. In doing so, the son of Here Comes Syd took control of the contest and although challenged late on by both Fantasy Tuppence and Brickhill Tamikia, ‘Syd’ held firm to score by a head. The time was 29.27.
