BIG SYDNEY STILL WINNING

Ian Fortune

It’s not long ago we spoke of Nomadic Bolt winning for the 20th time at almost seven years of age. It seems he has some competition for honour of being called the oldest swinger in town following the success of Mahogony Sydney at Clonmel on Sunday.

He may not be quite as old as Nomadic Bolt at six and a half, but given his record and current form, he could continue winning races for a little while yet.

A March ’20 whelp, the son of Droopy Sydney and Express Berry was simply too sharp for his rivals in his latest outing, getting loose early to make all for a three length victory in 29.19.

That was his 124th career outing and it seems likely he will be winning again for his lucky owner Paul King.

His record really is a thing of beauty. It took him five starts to get off the mark, winning for the first time in late February 2022. His latest victory was the 24th of his career, while he has finished in the first three an incredible 80 times.

What makes this all the more remarkable is the fact that he now weighs in at a whopping 89lbs. Like us all, he has put on a bit of timber as he has aged. It’s hard to believe he has won at 78lbs in the past.

Clearly, he enjoys a little treat and I suspect his lucky owner Paul has given him a couple this week after his latest victory. We look forward to tracking his career going forward. Well done boy.
