BUNDLE AND CALLAWAY IMPRESS IN BROWNSTOWN TANGO UNRACED

    Ian Fortune

Droopys Bundle and Callawayballymac both impressed at Newbridge on Friday night to book their place in the final of the Brownstown Tango & NTSC Open Bitch Unraced 525.

With just three rivals in opposition, Droopys Bundle was sent to traps the 1-4 favourite for the opening heat and she duly obliged as a long odds-on favourite should. Walkabout Pepper broke fastest to lead in the early strides but she couldn’t contain Matthew Derrick’s Droopys Bundle, who forced her way to the front on the turn.

In a matter of strides, the Robert Gleeson trained daughter of Droopys Sydney and Droops Sweet put the result beyond any doubt. Clear at halfway, she maintained a relentless gallop to the finish to emerge a very impressive eight length winner over Walkabout Pepper in 28.61. There was another two lengths to Pennys Anything in third.

    CALLAWAY TOO SHARP

Callawayballymac was simply too sharp for her rivals in the second heat.

Representing the potent team of Owen McKenna and Denis Murphy, the daughter of Ballymac Cooper and Ballymac Arminta broke well to hold a narrow margin before opening up by a length into the corner.

Avoiding some scrimmaging in behind, she would quickly open a race-winning lead. Ballinabola Pixi would emerge from the pack in second but there was no stopping Callawayballymac who would go on to score by three and a half lengths from the staying on Ballinabola Pixi in 28.76. Pennys Wildberry filled the frame, finishing a further five and a half lengths adrift.
