The age-old rivalry between Dublin and Cork is set to take on an exciting new twist as sporting legends Diarmuid Connolly and Eoin Cadogan swap the pitch for the commentary box in the inaugural BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby Celebrity Commentator Challenge.
The former All-Ireland winners have stepped well outside their comfort zones in recent weeks, attending an exclusive Commentator School under the expert guidance of well-known greyhound racing journalist and Shelbourne Park commentator Ian Fortune.
The challenge reaches its climax during racing on 29th August, on a night that also features the highly anticipated Quarter Finals of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby. Shelbourne Park racegoers will get the opportunity to hear Connolly and Cadogan put their newfound skills into practice as the Dublin and Cork rivals go head-to-head behind the microphone.

However, fans will have to wait a little longer to discover who comes out on top.
The full story, including behind-the-scenes footage from Commentator School, the challenges faced by both competitors, and the identity of the winning commentator, will be revealed exclusively as part of the live BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby Final broadcast on Virgin Media Television 2, airing from 9.00pm to 10.00pm on Derby Final Night, 12th September.
With plenty of competitive spirit, good humour and county pride on the line, the Celebrity Commentator Challenge promises to be one of the most entertaining additions to this year's Derby.
Speaking ahead of the event, Ian Fortune said: "Diarmuid and Eoin have both embraced the challenge brilliantly. Race commentary is far more difficult than people realise, but they have shown great enthusiasm and have worked hard to learn the craft. Fans can expect plenty of entertainment when they step into the commentary box at Shelbourne Park."
Liam McKee, Head of Sponsorship at BOYLE Sports, added: “Diarmuid Connolly and Eoin Cadogan are used to going head-to-head on the pitch, but the commentary box will be a whole different ball game. We’re expecting plenty of Dublin v Cork rivalry as the duo try to score points against each other and it's sure to be a challenge that brings lots of laughs and memorable moments to another thrilling edition of the BOYLE Sports Irish Greyhound Derby.”
