EAMON MAGINN

With the passing of Eamon Maginn earlier this week, Irish greyhound racing lost a truly legendary figure who has been producing future champions for many decades.

The man responsible for the ‘Tullymurry’ prefix put more top-class greyhounds through his hands than the vast majority of those involved in the sport.

The Tullymurry story began in the 70s with Eamon first tasting success with a brood named Champy Mona. She got the ball rolling, leading to some real stars emerging from the kennel. Some years later Tullymurry Spark emerged as something of a star in the breeding paddocks, throwing the likes of Tullymurry Quest, Tullymurry Tango, Tullymurry Token, the hugely talented Tullymurry Toff and Oaks finalist and Puppy Oaks winner Miss Allurity.

Perhaps the best to ever pass through his hands was 2009 Puppy Derby winner and Derby finalist Tullymurry Act. In more recent years, Eamon owned Tullymurry Faith. She would make an incredible start to her career, winning the Brownstown Tango Open Unraced at Newbridge before being sold across the pond. Under her new name of Slick Sakina, she became one of the best the UK has seen in modern times, capturing the English Oaks and the Eclipse.

She actually began her career under the stewardship of Damian Maginn, Eamon’s son. The pair had a great relationship and alliance that saw them bring many promising pups through in recent years.

Eamon certainly leaves a legacy. A gentleman and true doggy man, he loved nothing more than talking with his friends at the track about our four-legged friends. He will be remembered with great fondness by those that knew him and his passing leaves a huge hole in the sport, particularly in the north where he was a living legend.

We would likely to send on our sincerest condolences to his wife Elizabeth, his daughters Onnagh, Elaine and Joanne, his son Damian, his beloved grandchildren and great grand-children, his brothers Joey and Derek, his sister Brenda, his extended family and many friends.

May He Rest In Peace.
