FUTURE STARS TO STEP FORWARD AT ENNISCORTHY

Ian Fortune

The Future Champion & Michael Fortune Memorial Open Unraced continues at Enniscorthy this evening and it’s seems safe to expect many improved performances with those on show having a bit of experience to draw upon.

The star of last week’s opening round, in terms of the clock, was Monalee Haruto and he has been handed a trap five draw in the last of the three second round heats for his efforts. The son of Glengar Bale will again need to be on his toesin the opening yards but is clearly a leading fancy.

Of his rivals, Ballyroe Bongo is the main danger after impressing in the opening round. He too made every inch after a good start and seems likely to race prominently from the outset. Many of the others are expected to improve on their debut performances but will need to as they have a bit to find on the clock.

ACT TO LEAVE BEHIND DEBUT DEFEAT

Remarkably, none of those on show in the opening heat managed to break 29.50 last week, despite many of them going far faster in qualifying.

It’s fair to expect a few to improve considerably on last week’s form, including Bobsleigh Act.

He posted 28.75 around Tralee in qualifying only to find bad traffic on debut. From an ideal draw on the fence, he can open his account. Others respected include Ballinabola Zola, Cill Dubh Press, Droopys Gallant and Headwire Trout.

CHASE TO DOMINATE

Clona Chase did everything right in his opening round victory and is the one to beat in Heat 2.

As with Bobsleigh Act, he is trained by Pat Buckley and displayed plenty of promise in qualifying. Expect him to improve on his 29.14 opening round return and come home in front.

Monbeg Notorious caught the eye in defeat last week and can emerge a big danger, while each of the remainder are open to all sorts of improvement. The action at Enniscorthy gets underway at 8pm as always.
