GLENGAR MARTHA (Droopys Sydney-Glengarbadminton) went quickest on the clock in the opening round of the €7,000 to the winner Apex Global Resources Ltd Cork Oaks at Curraheen Park on Saturday night.
Such a consistent and classy performer, the Pat Buckley trained runner produced a flying start and she was soon in total control. Owned by William Wood, the 6-4 second favourite pulled right away on the back straight and she galloped strongly all the way home. A stunning 28.12 victory, eleven and a half lengths clear of Youandme Babe.
STRONG FIELD
Grangeclare Lady (Droopys Sydney-Sussie Sapphire) beat a strong field of runners with an outstanding 28.25 winning performance in heat three.
Trained by Owen McKenna for Peter Comerford, the 2-1 chance displayed explosive early pace to storm around the opening corners in front. They could never get on terms in behind and it was a fantastic front running effort.
Bushpark Mel was second best, three and a half lengths behind.
BRAVE OPENING CORNER
In the closing heat, Silverhill Freya (Ballymac Bolger-Silverhill Joyce) continued her run of fantastic form with another big winning display.
Trained by Graham Holland for Eugene Buckley, the 5-4 favourite drove a brave opening corner to slip around in front. In top gear down the back and with trouble in behind, the inform tracker ran out a great winner, in 28.39, nine and a half lengths clear of Drive On Beauty.
MASSIVE EARLY GEARS
Kerogue Lady (Droopys Sydney-Coolavanny Ella) landed the opening heat for trainer Patrick O’Connor and owners Ashleigh and Elaine McManus.
The 3-1 shot didn’t produce her quickest start but she displayed massive early gears to slip around in front. Going along nicely up front, she was soon getting chased down by Bockos Sapphire. Very little in it late on, the classy winner dug deep to land the spoils, in 28.69, winning by the shortest of margins in a very exciting finish.
OTHER RACES
In the opener, an A2, Clona Bingo, trained by Graham Holland for the Mad As Hatters Syndicate, the even money favourite ran out a very convincing winner. All one way traffic up front, the impressive winner clocked 28.52, six and a half lengths clear of Attiko.
In the second, an A1, Ardrath Ali overcame trouble at the opening corner when winning for trainer John Kiely and owner Richenda Kelly. The even money favourite bounced back to winning ways, in 28.72, two and a half lengths clear of Witches Bronte.
In the Go Greyhound Racing D4-D5 810 Final, Knockacrump Bell came from well off the pace to score for Brendan Kearney. It never looked likely, however, the 3-1 shot was up in the final strides to win in 46.08. Hot favourite Karacreek Ranch was clear for most of the way was back in second, three quarters of a length the winning margin.
The €1,200 to the winner Laurels Restaurant ON2 Stake final went the way of Clovers Dream for the Moydrum Massive Syndicate. The May youngster tracked well around the opening bends, showing plenty of pace throughout, the 9-4 winner for the better of Joyces Wallwander, by two and a half lengths, in 29.25.
