Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) Chairman and Board are pleased to announce the human recipients of the 2025 National Greyhound Racing Awards, recognising outstanding contributions to the sport across racing, welfare and community engagement.
The Hall of Fame Award for 2025 is being presented to Messrs. Peter and Aidan Comerford of Co. Kildare, in recognition of their long-term and distinguished involvement in greyhound racing. The Comerfords have contributed to the sport at every level, including breeding, training and ownership, and are widely respected figures within the industry.
The Special Merit Award is being awarded to Ms Yvonne Barry of Co. Meath. A member of the well-known Barry family of bookmakers, Yvonne is a familiar and much-valued presence at Shelbourne Park, where she has held her pitch for many years and remains a popular and respected figure within the racing community.
The Young Person of the Year Award goes to Mr Evan McAuliffe of Athlacca, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. In 2025, Evan made history by becoming the youngest trainer to win the prestigious Irish St. Leger, defeating a highly competitive field of established professional trainers.
The Greyhound Welfare Award is presented to Mr Tommy Caffrey of Clerihan, Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. Widely known across greyhound racing circuits, Tommy is recognised for his ongoing commitment to greyhound welfare, particularly his tireless work in ensuring retired racing greyhounds enjoy fulfilling lives beyond the track.
GRI congratulates all award recipients on their achievements and thanks them for their continued dedication to the sport of greyhound racing. All of the recipients will be honoured at the National Greyhound Racing Awards being hosted in Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium on Sunday 8th March 2026.
