HEIRESS ANOTHER BRILLIANT ENNICORTHY GRADUATE

Ian Fortune

It was another memorable weekend for Mark Wallis across the water with the UK’s champion trainer recording an incredible Category One hat trick on Saturday night.

As it happens, all three greyhounds started their careers in Ireland.

Garfiney Blaze was an established star over six bends before journeying across the Irish Sea. He got up in the final stride to land the George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial at Hove on Saturday night to confirm his standing as one of the UK’s best.

So too did New Destiny when capturing the Challenge Cup at Oxford on the same night. It was her third major victory of the year as she dictated from early to come home in front of Queen Georgia. New Destiny was sold out of Newbridge in early 2023 and has been a real star for her Mark Wallis and the MWD Partnership.

The hat trick was completed by the newest kid on the block Proper Heiress. Sent to traps the 11-10 favourite for Olympic glory, he was always in control after a fast start. The son of Droopys Sydney and Powerful Mush would go on to beat Droopys Extragud by a length and a half in a rapid 29.48 for the 515m trip.

It was just his ninth start in the UK. He became the latest Enniscorthy graduate to go on to bigger and better things. The September ’22 whelp was beaten on debut at Enniscorthy in the opening round of the Kiltrea Kennels Open Unraced but return to win his second-round assignment in 28.69.

It was a run that caught the eye of MWD Partnership supremo Mike Davis and he stepped into purchase the exciting prospect. It has certainly proven to be a shrewd move. It goes without saying, but Enniscorthy has been quite the springboard for many future champions.
