While there were just the eight races on offer at Galway Greyhound Stadium on Friday night, there were some smart performances on the night and the highlight was a double for the kennel of Alison Coxon.
The first of Alison’s duo to cross the line in front was August puppy, Hollywell Flint. A well-supported 4/5 favourite last time out when gaining a maiden victory, the son of Pat C Sabbath and Hollywell Honey was again installed as the strong even money jolly in this contest and he justified that price tag with a slick exit from three. As a result, ‘Flint’ showed fine early dash to hold off the advancing Calling Bridie, before pulling clear of his rival to win by two lengths. The time was 19.47 .5s.
The double was complete in race five, which was the second heat of the A5/A6 Tri-Distance. On this occasion, it was Hollywell Mave that emerged a wide-margin winner as she notched a fourth career win from eleven starts. Sent to traps as a 3/1 chance, the daughter of Pat C Sabbath and Hollywell Samba was briefly to play second fiddle early on as Five Alley Zena showed the superior early speed, however, this was short-lived as ‘Mave’ held her position to take charge rounding the opener. In doing so, she took a commanding lead into the back as she drew clear of her rivals to win by six lengths in 29.48 .10s.
KATE FASTEST OF THE NIGHT
Arguably the performance of the night came in race two as Knockanoura Kate produced a career best display for Stephen Murray and Martin Williams.
Indeed, Knockanoura Kate must be a dream to own as she was seeking a tenth career victory when lining out in red. Installed as the even money favourite, she made no mistakes in picking up her third win from her last four outings. Drawn in one, the daughter of Burgess Bucks and Crokers Wish took a flyer and she entered the back with a three parts of a length lead over Rylane Master in second. The duo served up a thrilling battle all the way to the home straight where ‘Kate’ began to really assert and pull clear by two and a half lengths. The time was 29.14 .10s.
