IRISH SPRINT CUP CLUES AT DUNDALK AS TANK AND ACE IMPRESS

While many of Ireland’s best and most consistent sprinters were in action over the weekend at Limerick, there was also a couple of notable runs at Dundalk from greyhounds that are clearly going to be aimed at the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup.

Epic Ace is particularly fast and seems certain to really appreciate the 400yd trip at Dundalk. He trialled ahead of racing on Saturday night and posted a fast 20.92 off a 7.15 sectional, leaving a little room for improvement. It was his first look at Dundalk and connections will certainly be happy with the run.

    A TANK DEMOLITION

Not long after, in the opening race on the card there was a very special run, however. Lennies Tank was having just his fourth career outing but left observers in no doubt that he is potentially a very special sprinter.

After winning his two previous outings at Dundalk in 21.42 and a fast 20.96, the Paul Hennessy trained son of 2021 Irish Sprint Cup champ Good Cody and Deelish Oreo was absolutely electric, charging to the front into the bend before powering clear to post a sensational 20.75 in a ten-length romp.

Not only had Lee Craze’s brilliant tracker posted the fastest time of the year but it was also the joint fifth fastest time of all time. It’s clear he could be anything, although he may need to be with this year’s Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup shaping up very nicely indeed. Incidentally, the sprint classic is due to get underway just over a month from now on July 19th so expect to see a few more promising sprinters line out over the 400yd trip in the coming weeks.
