KANE FASTEST ONCE AGAIN IN LORD UNRACED

Ian Fortune

Both Glengar Kane and Seamount King made it three from three in the quarter finals of the Lord Unraced at Enniscorthy on Thursday with both impressing to come in front in their respective assignments.

Glengar Kane was flawless in the final heat, maintaining his unbeaten record in the competition. Richard Colwell’s son of Grangeview Ten and Mystical Luna was simply too sharp for his rivals, showing fine early speed after a level tart to go clear into the bend.
It was all one-way traffic for the Pat Buckley trained star thereafter. Showing no signs of fatigue, he powered through the line to win in 28.83 with the track rated .20 slow. Deerjet Matilda, a kennel companion to Glengar Kane, was second throughout, finishing seven and a half lengths back, while there was a four and a half length gap to Ballinabola Josh in third.

KING CONTAINS BLASTOFF

Eoin Mullins’ Seamount King also made every inch in Heat 3, although he had to dig deep to contain the persistent challenge of Elite Blastoff.

Seamount King didn’t fly from traps but did show fine early speed to lead on the turn.

The son of King Sheeran and Bobsleigh Joy kept his rival at bay, staying on to win by a neck in 29.01 (rated .20 slow). Its clear Elite Blastoff is improving with each outing and he ran well to take second with a three-length gap to Karlow Flame in third.

KANDOO DID

Ballymac Kandoo opened his account in the opening heat, making all or Garry Dempsey and owners Cormac and Charlie Doyle.

The well bred son of Ballymac Cooper and Ballymac Sahara broke smartly from six and despite edging across, cleared Any Means by a length on the turn.

The latter attempted to stay with the leader but Ballymac Kandoo eased on to win by five lengths in 29.23. There was another two and a half lengths to Ballinabola Kiki in third.

IVY AND HAWK SHARE HONOURS

Peter and Michael Cronin had reason to smile in Heat 2 with Rapido Ivy and Bombay Hawk dead-heating.

The pair were both trained by Peter and owned by Michael and they couldn’t be separated at the line.

Rapido Ivy was sharpest, leading from the opening yards. The daughter of Grangeview Ten and Chelms Ramona built a clear lead to halfway but Bombay Hawk was about to move through the gears.

The son of Ballyhimikin Jet and Galadriel had been forced to check at the second turn and found himself a long way off the pace in fourth but he flew into the third turn to close before charging up the home straight to join Rapido Ivy on the line. The judge was unable to separate the pair with both stopping the clock in 29.36. Rising Forrest was two and a half lengths adrift in third.
