KILKENNY NEWS AND A1 DERBY UPDATE

Ian Fortune

Friday’s meeting at Kilkenny will feature the opening round heats of the JAG Building Services & KGOBA A1 Derby.

This event is once again generously sponsored by Gavin O’Mahoney of JAG Building Services and the Kilkenny Greyhound Owners and Breeders Association.

The famous competition is worth a very handsome €9,000 to the winner and was won in fine style last year by the Murt Leahy trained Delirium Tremens. There is a superb entry for this year’s event and it will provide some top-class racing over coming weeks. Friday’s meeting will also act as a fundraiser for St. Lachtain’s GAA Club in Freshford so a big crowd and wonderful atmosphere seem assured.

CHANGE TO MEANEY MEMORIAL DATES

There is a slight change to the scheduling of the Peter Meaney Memorial A4 525 Sweepstake.

The stake was originally pencilled in to start on August 30th but it has now been pushed back to commence on Friday, September 6th. The stake is open to 36 greyhounds and boasts a win prize of €2,000.

STILL ROOM IN NEXT SALES

The next sales meeting is due to take place on Saturday, August 31st and there is still room for a few additional lots.

Entries need to be in before noon on Tuesday, August 27th

LAURELS TRIAL STAKE

Entries also invited for the Bar One Irish Greyhound Laurels Trial Stake which will be part of the Friday, August 30th card.

This one-off contest is for 6 mini-open greyhounds and has a winner’s prize of €500 with free entry to the Laurels at Curraheen Park.
