LAR FOGARTY

Greyhound racing and, more particularly, Dublin greyhound racing lost a great friend in recent days with the passing of Laurence Fogarty.

Known only as Lar to his many friends, he was a regular at the Dublin tracks for many years going back to the late 60’s and was lucky enough to own a few decent dogs in his time.

His undoubted pride and joy was Pearly Spencer, who he owned and trained. She was a wonderful performer on the track but also became one of the most prolific broods of modern times, throwing over 300 winners in Ireland and the UK. In more recent years, he owned a number of decent dogs, most trained by his nephew Larry Kelly.

One of the great characters, Lar always had a word and had the most wonderful ‘Dublin’ wit. He was truly great company and always seemed to have a joke ready to go. His presence, his smile and kind manner will be greatly missed by those that frequent Shelbourne Park.

We would likely to send our sincere condolences to his wife Marie, sons Laurence and Peter, his beloved grandchildren Finn and Luke, his daughter in law Lorraine, Peter’s partner Zeen, his sisters Pauline, Louise and Phyllis, his extended family and many friends. The sport of greyhound racing is worse for his passing.

    May He Rest In Peace.
