CHIEF SYDNEY IS DERBY BOUND

Barry Drake

CHIEF SYDNEY, trained by Kevin McLean for owner Patrick O'Herlihy, booked his Irish Greyhound Derby ticket when winning the Boylesports Irish Greyhound Derby Trial Stake in Youghal on Wednesday night.

It looked like a red-hot contest on paper, however, the well-supported 6-4 favourite was soon in control after producing a flying start. Running a great opening corner, he was in top gear heading down the back straight, and in truth, he was always in control. In-form tracker Its Paddy Wish was almost on terms heading into the third corner, but the winner kicked again and he pulled out all the stops to beat the running on Its Paddys Wish, by two lengths, in 29.00.
