The second round heats of the Dinny Mackey Memorial A3 525 featured at Thurles Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night and it was No More Fiftys that set the standard with a terrific performance in heat two.
Trained by Denise Ryan, who enjoyed a double on the card, No More Fiftys (Knocknaboul Syd - Scooby Darotka) could only manage fourth in the opening round, however, bounced back impressively to score for the first time for the Just-For-Fun-Four-Syndicate. Drawn in trap two, the 2/1 chance fell from traps and was subsequently out with the washing early on as Borna Thyme built a commanding lead out in front. However, after showing a lovely turn of speed to improve into second, No More Fiftys turned on the afterburners in the closing yards to motor past his rival and seal a two length win. The time was 29.09 .20s.
The opening heat was landed by Russcon Eddie (Magical Bale - Night Time Fairy) as he maintained his unbeaten status in the event for the Hickey-Syndicate. Installed as the 5/4 favourite, he outlined his intentions early on as he broke best of all wearing blue to post a 1.68 sectional. In doing so, the classy brindle opened a four length lead over his rivals and he stuck to his task well in the closing yards to cross the line with three lengths in hand of Goldmine Duke in second. The time was 29.41 .20s.
Heat three also saw Holiday Beebee (Grangeview Ten - Beebees Star) maintain her unbeaten run as she built on a smart 29.04 performance with an equally impressive display for Seamus Ryan and Roger Quinlan. 5/4 at the off, ‘Beebee’ had Kylenoe Bell for company in the early exchanges, however, quickly outpaced her rival to go three lengths clear into the back. At this point, Ducks Ina Row once again gave chase, however, the leader was never under threat as she emerged a two length winner over his familiar foe in second. The time for the fawn was 29.14 .20s.
The remaining heat was landed by Dick Purcell’s Carneys Goldmine as he justified his 4/6 price tag with another emphatic victory. A winner of his opening round task in 28.94, the son of Cabra Firmino and Goldmine Lily overcame early traffic this time around to ensure that he remains the one to beat in this competition. Running from five, ‘Carneys’ was on the receiving end of a sluggish start in five and he sat at the rear early on. However, breezing past each and every rival, he powered to a four length victory over Centenarys Leo in second, as the clock stopped in 29.22 .20s. A thoroughly impressive win from Dick Purcell and Francis Tobin’s charge.
