It’s with great sadness we must report in the passing of one of the first ladies of Irish greyhound racing, Pauline Ryan.
For many, many years, Pauline was entrenched in the sport, breeding a number of superstars, many of which carried her famed ‘Beaming’ prefix.
A hugely popular figure, Pauline was known as a truly great character and was the best of company. But it was as a breeder that she will be best remembered. She was responsible for almost too many champions to give them all a mention but some of her best-known stars included Oaks champion April Surprise, who was a daughter of their own stud dog Beaming Supreme.
Lenson Sanchez was something of a star also, winning the 2014 English Puppy Derby at Wimbledon and the Night Of Stars 525, while also reaching the final of the Easter Cup final, Joe Dunne Memorial and Scottish Derby. Others stars bred by Pauline, along with her daughter Corona, included Beaming Dilemma, Hee Haws Cantona, Big Appetite, Heart Rumble, Beaming Paradise, Coolavanny Jap, Beaming Coyote and so many more.
Her late husband, Jap, was also something of a sporting hero in Limerick, playing a huge role with the senior hurlers for many years, while her children are also heavily involved in greyhound racing ensuring her legacy, with her daughter Corona carrying on the ‘Beaming’ prefix.
Irish greyhound racing, and Limerick greyhound racing in particular, is far worse for the passing of Pauline. She will be remembered fondly by all that knew her and we would like to take this opportunity to send on our sincerest condolences to her daughters Geraldine, Siobhan, Sherry, Corona, Sandra, Georgina, sons Timothy, Dominic, her brother Benny, her in-laws, her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family and wide circle of friends.
May She Rest In Peace.
