REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSPORTING GREYHOUNDS TO GREAT BRITAIN

Rásaíocht Con Éireann has been working with various parties to establish the requirements for transporting greyhounds to and from the UK.  The new arrangements in place are quite complex and there is a particular log-jam at present in terms of all parties seeking to become registered etc to comply with the new requirements.

The attached guidance document has been prepared by Rásaíocht Con Éireann from various websites and contact with the bodies involved in the new arrangements.  The document covers the scenarios of:

• - Irish trained greyhounds racing in the UK. 
• - UK trained greyhounds racing in Ireland.
• - Commercial movements of greyhounds from Ireland to the UK.
• - Commercial movements of greyhounds from the UK to Ireland.

There is no doubt that the new arrangements are much more complex than previously applied and parties involved in the transportation of greyhounds should become fully au fait with what is required.  A number of “test transportations” are currently underway and Rásaíocht Con Éireann will feed back to the greyhound community the outcome and learnings from such transportations.
