THREE-TIMER FOR CABRA AT THURLES

THREE-TIMER FOR CABRA AT THURLES

Peter Farrell

The Scally connections are never too far away from the winner’s podium at Thurles Greyhound Stadium and they accounted for three of the ten races on offer at the Premier venue on Saturday night.

The first to score was Cabra Castro, who produced an outstanding sprinting performance to land his S4/S6 330 in supreme style. The 5/4 favourite, owned by Paddy Scally, made his intentions clear from the outset as he broke well from two to outpace his nearest rival Knockroe Lady in the opening strides. Thereafter, it was a straightforward assignment for the son of Pat C Sabbath and Cabra Ava as he drew clear to see off Hes Mint by five lengths, in a rapid 17.70.

Litter brother, Cabra Klovy, was the next to emerge victorious as he landed his A6/A7 525 contest by a slender margin. Installed as the 6/4 favourite, ‘Klovy’ took a flyer from his inside berth in one and he took a good advantage into the opening bend. Travelling best of all entering the back straight, Emers Queeny looked a real threat as she improved around the bottom two turns, however, Cabra Klovy wasn’t in the mood to be outdone as he pulled out all the stops to cross the line a half length too strong, in 29.86.

The treble was completed in race six, an S2/S3 sprint, as Cabra Venom made it four career wins with a trap-to-line display. Again installed as the jolly (6/4), the son of Cabra Firmino and Cabra Blitz was headed early on by Micks Elite, however, within a few strides he got to work as he raced clear into the opening bend. Thereafter, it was all one-way traffic for ‘Venom’ as he powered up the home straight to win by six lengths from Brennanonthemoor in second. The time was 17.79.
