SIZZLING RUN FROM BORN RACER IN SUPERSPRINT SEMI FINALS

    Barry Drake

BORN RACER (Ballymac Anton-Whitings Gift), trained by Jennifer O'Donnell for owner John Mitchell, delivered a sizzling 17.40 winning performance in Saturday night's second semi-final of the €5,000 to the winner Two Wheel Training Supersprint at Curraheen Park.

The 9-4 second favourite came away racing and the super-talented performer was in front right away. Powering into the opening corners, Born Racer sailed around the bends in front and it was clear he was on for a big run. Strong throughout, the outcome was never in any doubt as he came home with three lengths to spare over Satin Milo, who himself ran a cracker in second. Two lengths back to Coretime Tom in third. Hot favourite Road Exile was poorly away and the Defending Champion had little luck at the opening bend and that ended his chance.

    POWERING HOME

The opening semi-final was all about Blastoff Ger (Grangeview Ten-Blastoff Fizz) as the 3-1 shot scored easily for Philip Buckley. In the mix out wide early, he drove a fantastic opening corner to slip around in front. Once he took up the running, he really did power away, flying up the home straight, Blastoff Ger came home alone, clocking 17.59. Five lengths back to Lonesome Pete in second place and a further half a length back to Zippy Canning in third.

    IN OTHER RACES

Danzig Rebel (Ballymac Cashout-Livz Dream) came home in front to win the €1,000 to the winner Noel Dwyer Memorial Dual Distance Stake Final. Winning the all-important early lead, the 5-4 favourite turned into the back straight with Ferryworth Wild chasing hard in second. The order remained the same up front as the winner had all the answers. A 29.95 winning run in the A3 550 event, with a length back to Ferryworth Wild in second place.

In the closing race, an A0, Da Tapper Flynn (Droopys Sydney-Droopys Lagoon) finished with a flourish to win for trainer Pat Kiely and owners the Golden Spoon Syndicate. Out the back early and short at room soon after the opening corner, the strong running tracker put on a sensational performance from halfway to score. Morrigan Fay led early then it was Karacreek Ranch who led on the turn for home, but the winner produced an incredible finish to land the spoils. Three-quarters of a length the margin, in 28.46.
