SUPA MAC ON A DIFFERENT LEVEL IN CURTIN MEMORIAL

Ian Fortune

It had been 22 years since the 29-second barrier had been broken at Mullingar but Supa Mac ended the drought in the second round of the Pat Curtin Memorial on Saturday night, showing fine acceleration into the bend before emerging a very easy winner in a stunning 28.96.

An even money favourite after an encouraging opening round success, he quickly seized complete control for Paul Hennessy and owner Paul Hynes. A son of Mcinerney and Illnotbeback, Supa Mac was on a different planet to his rivals, pulling further and further clear to eventually see off Delvin Man and Riviera Richie by twelve and a half lengths and a length and a half.

MOE NEXT FASTEST

Seamus Reilly’s Breffni Moe was next fastest, following up his opening round victory with a strong running display in the last of the four heats.

The son of Deerjet Sydney and Mydras Dawn was never too far off the pace before finishing best of all to beat Krushing It by three lengths in 29.48.

ZIP GETS LOOSE

Sarah Neville’s Ballyhealy Zip took Heat 3 in trap to line fashion.

The son of Burgess Bucks and Limini was in front from the early yards and proceeded to make all to beat Droopys Riveria by a length and a half in 29.58.

EARLY SPEED KEY FOR OBELISK

Early speed was the key to success for Obelisk in Heat 2.

Representing Pat Hartnett and Vincent McKenna, the son of Orchestrate and Lillies Supreme flashed to the turn to set a strong gallop but he was all out in the closing yards to contain Faydas Lullaby by a neck in 29.59.
