The final of the TIME Greyhound Nutrition A3 525 was the feature race on Friday’s card at Kilkenny and it was somewhat fitting that Bricken Sober came through to claim a narrow victory, completing Karol Ramsbottom domination of the event.
In all there were eleven races in the €4,700 to the winner competition and Ramsbottom took all but one of them. However, Bricken Sober had to pull out all the stops to pick up long-time leader Flamin Cashless.
Deadly Ace was the nearest rival to Flamin Cashless in the opening exchanges, while Bricken Sober was only fifth into the bend after a tardy start. But things had a very different look to them by the time they hit the back straight.
Showing fine pace and track craft, Bricken Sober forced his way into third. He remained over our lengths behind the leader but carried plenty of momentum. By the third turn, the son of Sober Glory and Sober Pearly was almost upsides his kennel companion Deadly Ace and pressing for second.
The duo closed on the leader with Bricken Sober making the most of the outside line. Flamin Cashless needed the line but it wouldn’t come in time. In a driving finish, the Bally Three Syndicate owner Bricken Sober got up in the final stride to claim a short head success in 29.26 (.30 slow). Flamin Cashless ran well in second with just a length to Deadly Ace in third.
TORNADO MAKES ALL
Hey Tornado was at his very sharpest in the final of the Willie Hanlon Memorial for Paddy and Collette Flynn.
Posting a quick 4.29 sectional, the son of Jacob Tashadelek and Long Kiwi made every inch to contain the late challenge of Liberty Sport by three parts of a length in 29.31 (rated .30 slow).
