Just hours after it was confirmed that Bockos Diamond is to skip the upcoming Bresbet Easter Cup came the wonderful news that his kennel companion and defending champion Clonbrien Treaty is set to return to the track in an attempt to complete another famous double.
It seemed as though we had seen the last of the brilliant brindle after he picked up an injury in a prep race at Shelbourne Park ahead of the Derby. In fact, as we speak the Clonbrien Treaty @ Stud Limerick Oaks currently underway at Limerick but the lure of the track is clearly too great.
Thankfully, the sensational son of Pestana who is already a four-time classic winner, is set to race again. He first came to prominence when emerging a brilliant winner of the 2023 Kirby Memorial. He would go on to cement his status of one of the greatest ever by winning the Irish Leger at Limerick later in 2023 and Easter Cup at Shelbourne in early 2024 before claiming a famous second Leger title later in the year.
Muireann Murphy confirmed her star was on the comeback trail and was shaping well. Said Muireann, “He has recovered fully from a gracilis injury. He is still over with Graham [Holland]. We got over to see him recently and he’s looking great. He has trialled and is progressing very well and he’ll be going to the Easter Cup”.
The news also came just days after Clonbrien Treaty was deservedly awarded the Limerick/ Clare GOBA Outstanding Achievement Award for 2024, while he has also been nominated for Dog of the Year at the National Greyhound Awards.
