UNVEILING OF "COILLTE KIRBY" AT LIMERICK GREYHOUND STADIUM: A LEGACY FROM THE 2024 CON & ANNIE KIRBY MEMORIAL

As part of the launch activities for 2024 Con & Annie Kirby Memorial (kindly sponsored by Noreen & JP McManus and named in honour of Noreen’s parents, Con & Annie Kirby, Limerick Greyhound Stadium introduced an innovative tree planting project.  In March all 72 participating GAA, LGFA, Camogie and Handball Clubs were invited to plant a tree at the Stadium to signify the venues commitment to sustainability and biodiversity at the site.

This week the sign telling the story of “Coillte Kirby” was unveiled by Noel Earlie and Paul Foley of Martinstown  on behalf of Noreen & JP McManus, joined by John Tuohey, CFO of Greyhound Racing Ireland.

The "Coillte Kirby" initiative goes beyond simple tree planting. It represents a unified effort to promote ecological conservation and community engagement. By involving a wide array of clubs, the initiative fosters unity and collaboration while raising environmental awareness among participants and supporters alike.

The location of each tree is mapped and included on the Limerick Greyhound Stadium website, allowing clubs to monitor their trees' progress over time. 

John Tuohey, CFO, Greyhound Racing Ireland said, “This initiative serves as a tangible reminder of this years Con & Annie Kirby Memorial.  It not only reflects Limerick Greyhound Stadiums ongoing environmental initiatives but promotes a culture of sustainability within the wider sporting community.”
