WINKS A BALLYMAC WINNER IN AUSTRALIA

Ian Fortune

Ballymac Winx was a versatile performer for Liam Dowling during her time in Ireland, winning seven times, over two and four bends, at three different tracks, Tralee, Shelbourne Park and Dundalk.

A best 28.44 at Tralee over 525yds and 21.29 for the 400yd trip at Dundalk highlighted her talent but she hasn’t been seen on these shores since last March.

That’s because she was sold to Australia. Unusually, given her age, she debuted down under on Wednesday night under a slightly altered name. Now over three years of age, Ballymac Winks ran in a 390m contest at Ballarat, going to boxes the $2.80 favourite and quickly seized control from the box six draw.

The daughter of dual classic winner Ballymac Kingdom and Ballymac Meena raced on to a wonderful two length victory for handler Thomas Dailly and owner George Dailly in 22.11. She may well win more races in Oz but one suspects she was brought over with a view to introducing some of the best Irish lines into her new connections’ breeding operation.

If you want to see the Australian debut of Ballymac Winks, the Greyhound Girl account on Facebook and Instagram was kind enough to post it. You can view the race by clicking on either of the links below:
