Lennies Eddie is set to contest the TIME Dundalk International after claiming the English Derby at Towcester on Saturday evening.
Kevin Hennessy confirmed the news on Monday, stating that they had a rethink about the possible next target for the brilliant son of Good Cody.
They had intended to give him a longer break and ready him for the Derby at Shelbourne Park but he is now set to challenge for the valuable invitation. Of course, Saturday night was the anniversary of Bunny Kavanagh, Susan Hennessy’s late father and Kevin’s grandfather. He was also the man that introduced Paul Hennessy to training greyhounds and during his own training career, he had a close association with Dundalk.
And so, when the dust settled, it just seemed the right thing to do. It comes as a huge bonus to Dundalk, a track that Kevin rightly suggests goes out of their way for potential International contenders. Who knows what dogs will join the English Derby champion at Dundalk, but have little doubt, it will be another vintage renewal of the contest that was first run all the way back in 1968.
Incidentally, Paul Hennessy has won the contest twice in the past with Priceless Sky in 2013 and his first English Derby winner, Jaytee Jet in 2017.
